Description
The SD2SP2 adapter is a board that allows you to connect a microSD card to the serial port (Serial Port 2) on the bottom of the Nintendo GameCube console.
It provides gamers with a more convenient way to use the console for modding purposes: Running homebrew:
♦ Allows you to run homebrew software, emulators, and tools such as Swiss.Backups
♦ Enables you to load game backups from a microSD card, which reduces wear on the drive’s original laser.
♦ No memory card slot occupied: Unlike older adapters (e.g., SDGecko), this adapter is inserted into a dedicated slot on the bottom of the console, leaving both standard memory card slots free.
♦ Faster read speeds: It uses the serial port bus, ensuring smooth data and video read operations in games.
To use the adapter, you need a boot program (e.g., on an SD card in slot A, an XenoGC-type modification chip, or the popular Picoboot modification).
It’s worth noting that not all GameCube console models (e.g., newer versions of the DOL-101 motherboard) have this port, so compatibility depends on the specific hardware revision.
This adapter bypasses the console’s memory card limitations, allowing the use of memory cards larger than 2GB. The maximum capacity of the memory card that can be used depends on the software being used; currently, the maximum is 512GB.
